Frequently asked questions

How soon can I get an appointment?
We will talk within a day of your call.  Usually I will see you within a week of your call.

How long will I be in therapy?
You may only need one visit. Many people work with a therapist on one issue and stop treatment when they learn to deal with it. Others see a counselor to resolve one issue, and discover other matters they want to explore. The length of treatment depends on each individual.

What if I start remembering past events?
Therapy is a learning process. You learn about yourself and you learn how to live with who you really are. Sometimes people learn things about their past that are surprising. This new information helps them better understand themselves and what they want in life.

Do I have to take medication?
I do not prescribe medication. Some people feel enormous sadness or anxiety and medication has helped them manage that emotional pain. When the pain is managed doing the work in therapy is easier. Everyone is different, so there is no “right” or “wrong” about medications.

What if I need to talk between sessions?
I am available by phone between sessions. When I’m out of the office I check my voice mail regularly and can usually return a call within one hour of receiving it. I'm available from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week and sometimes during the weekend.

Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes, look for the PayPal link on the Contact page.
